Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bit of poo stuck to the back of Ruby's leg...

Hello everyone,

it's paul here (vicky's partner - she's still in bed and I'm having a great time with the rabbit :)) When we were playing with her last night I noticed she had a tiny bit of poo stuck to one of her back legs. I had a quick look this morning and it's still there so I tried to pick her up and take a better look.

She doesn't mind being picked up for a bit of affection or petting but she doesn't half wriggle if you're trying to get a good look at her etc. I don't want to frighten her after only being her a week, but I've heard about these things turning nasty if left unnattended.

I managed to pull off 2 little pellets which were stuck to her fur but there's a little chunk which is really embedded in her fur on the back of her leg (kind of like her heel or back of her knee area)... Does anyone have any advice for getting this off without hurting her or distressing her? Are best off trying to give her a bit of a bath in some luke-warm water? I don't think we'll be able to get it out without pulling fur out to be honest :(

Also, I've read a few other posts along the similar lines and realise we'll have to start doing a complete cage clean more often (currently every 3 days or so) if we want to stop this from happening.

Great forum by the way - vicky loves it! I've been on motorbike & kit car building forums for quite a while and vic has always thought I've been so sad, but now she realises just how helpful & friendly everyone can be if you're after a bit of advice etc...

Keep up the great work :)

Paul & Ruby (and vic in bed :p)
