  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Claw

oligopoly

New Kit
Hi, signed up to ask this question as I'm concerned. I have tried to trim my rabbit's claws (using a special rabbit guilletine type device from a pet store). the claws are long, but not so long that they start to curl over or anything like that. Have had limited success even with a friend helping hold him and following advice online. Have managed to trim a couple of claws, but he wriggles free in a violent way when we attempt it, and then spends then next few hours being angry. will instead book him in at the vets to get it done ASAP.

i just went into his room (has his own room and lives in a hutch) and i found what looks like a whole claw on the floor :-( its about 1cm long. is it possible he could have bitten this off himself? or even snagged it on the carpet? really worried hes in pain, although hes running round and doing binkys as normal.

confused and anxious. would love some feedback. thanks. :(

Hi and welcome to the forums.
Are you able to check his feet at all to see if there are any claws missing? This has happened to my buns a couple of times but they have been fine.
If you are at the vet tomorrow anyway, ask them to check.
