  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New Kit
Two Of My Rabbits Had Kits . One Litter Has A Runt It Is 6 Days Old And Is Half The Size Of The Other 3 Kits Should I Suppliment Its Feeding , And If So What Should I Use?

If it's belly looks full and round, then it's feeding normally and you shouldn't need to supplement it.

If it's belly is wrinkly, then you could try feeding it some goats milk from a 1ml syringe. Make sure you rub some of mum's scent on you before handling it though, just in case mum rejects it.

Mum will benefit from extra, good quality food. Pellets for junior rabbits are the ideal food for a nursing doe.

Also make sure that dad is seprated from both mums, because he could make them pregnant again as soon as they've given birth.

If you and mum are good friends then you could hold mum gently so the little one gets a head start on the feed from his brothers and sisters. He could however be a peanut and there fore will most likely not make it.:(

It would sound to me that the runt is in fact a peanut, does it have pronounced eyes? If it is a peanut, they generally make it to only 4 weeks and pass, I do hope it isnt a peanut!

What breed are they? Peanuts are usually Netherland Dwarfs.

Four kits isn't a big litter so if the baby is healthy it should catch up later :)
