  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Chattering

Wise Old Thumper
Bailey's teeth have been checked as he is a dental bun but recently started chattering. vet could see nothing that was making this.

could he just be happy?

x

If he is doing it gently & intermittently without any other signs he could be in pain (lethargy, hunched position, refusal to eat, unusual aggression) then it's quite likely it's a tooth purr rather than grinding.

do u think then hes just happy?

nope hes not hunched, lethargic, hes eating like a demon and hes NEVER agressive.

hes been doing it off and on for weeks now. the vet checked his teeth using an otoscope?? and he was fine.

thanks sooz x

If his teeth are Ok then it's probably a contented grinding, if it gets more frequent it may be an indication a dental is due....thy often fiddle with their mouths when they feel uncomfortable just as they do post-dental because it feels strange.

Mack was awful after his incisors were removed, he never stopped playing with his mouth because it felt odd...it gave the appearence of grinding.

yup docs does this allllllllllllll the time but more so when i pick him and give his ears a good scratch, the ears seem to be the tick, i was worried at first but his poos are fine he eats like a horse and the vet said his teeth were fine :D
