  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

snotty nose

bunnymadhouse

Wise Old Thumper
we have a bun in who was found roaming in cold wet weather ..

as a result he has a snotty nose ...

doesnt appear to be affecting his breathing ..his chest is clear ...the vet is confident we caught the problem early .

teeth all fine

but
he has had a couple of weeks on baytril...which did help at first but then we were at a standstill ...
so we are now using septrin ..but no improvement so far .

the snot is white and sometimes realy stringy...not caked up and not always obvious .

i feel the cold weather is making things worse .

Any ideas ???
would bringing him inside greatly improve his chances of recovery...but he would eventualy have to go back out so im reluctant to bring him in :?

I am asking about moving Lexie to Oxtetracycline next week as Baytril/Septrin have had no effect on her at all....yet her C&S results showed the bacteria (Pasturella) was susceptible to both.

I'm concerned about the injection though as she had severe Baytril burn last time we gave her abx injections.

The other issue is, their room is freezing as our central heating has now packed up....and it's making things worse, she was very wheezy this morning. I would think if you brought him in now he would probably relapse once he had to go back outside.
