Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Okay. so my bunny has been pretty much been living on carrots, for 1 year she was okay, but when we moved, her stools were softer and we decided to switch her bedding to a cheaper brand (VERY BAD Decision) and she has gotten so wet and lost / matted alot of her fur around her legs. she's still in high spirits with the recent attention she's been getting but it's pretty bad. any ideas of what I should do? cut the matted hair and hopefully it'll grow back? how do I clean her as well?

we were using Carefresh before we switched, which is 20$ a bag... does everyone use this?

What i'd LIKE to do is make the lowest floor (she has a pillow case turned into a hammock she likes to sleep / rest on) into a metal grating so that her feces/ urine drops down, is this recomended? I don't really like that she's sitting / running around in it.

If she is easy to handle then perhaps you could gently trim her fur and wash the dirty area, again gently, with a mild shampoo. making sure you dry her properly afterwards.

A diet of carrots isn't a balanced and proper diet for a bun...she needs to have unlimited hay to eat, a selection of vegetables especially green veg and a small amount of dried feed to cover all her nutritional needs.

if she is getting dirty from her bedding then it would be best if you simply clean her cage out more often, since generally a regularly cleaned cage should not make a bunny wet and dirty.

If however you already do clean her out regularly ie every couple of days, then perhaps she has a medical problem that is making her wet underneath, in which case it may be worth taking her to a vet.

If she is really matted then you could try to trim off the worst bits. Some people use cornflour and rub it in and say this works. You could also try some mild animal shampoo. I do this and use a cotton wool pad so it is just damp and try to wipe the area clean and then dry off thoroughly.

Your bunny does need hay if it will eat it. The alternative I have found with one of mine is Oxbow Bunny Basics T which is hay based and helped with my problem bunny (who refuses hay).

If this has been an ongoing problem then really you should get the vet to check out your bunny.

I use megazorb (quite cheap in UK) in their litter tray but I believe a lot use carefresh too.

Is bunny indoors or outdoors? Could you not bed her on hay/straw?? Carefresh and silimar products are for the litter trays i believe :? So putting this all over her cage probably isnt ideal :?

I would try and clean her up a little with warm water, if that doesnt help then a mild bunny shampoo :( Dry her as best as you can though as you dont want her getting a cold. I'd trim the mats as best you can but you also said shes lost the fur in places? Do you mean down to the skin??

Hope shes ok :) xXx

I dont think id do this :( Wouldnt the grating hurt her feet? :? The best thing would be to clean her daily or every few days :) Maybe try and litter train her so she isnt running around in her mess :) xXx
