Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Poor Elvis Bear has bloat

HJH

Young Bun
It is amazing how they can deteriorate so quickly. Elvis scrambled for his food this morning as usual, came back from school run and he hasn't even come out of the house, both he and Honey just laid there.

Kept an eye on him, he wasn't eating, pooing or doing very much, just laying there, at one point I thought he was gone, so still.
Took him to the vet, said that he felt slightly bloated although no blockages, lumps etc also checked the teeth. All fine. She gave some Anti-biotics and another injection, said to keep him warm. He snuggled in a quilt in the house, his ears warmed up, managing to drink plenty of water when I put bowl in front of him. But no poos or eating.
Took him back this afternoon, vet gave another shot of Gut medicine. Later on in the early evening, he suddenly got up offered some greens and hey presto, he was back, munching away, then pooing and generally back to himself again.

Slowly getting better, keeping fingers crossed, seeing vet in the morning.

Have kept him inside tonight as the vet said, also Honey. Worried now they will start shedding winter coat or am I being paranoid!?

So pleased he is better. If he is eating, pooing normal tomorrow it won,t be a problem to put them back outside:D

They wont shed the coat that quickly.

Personally I would keep him in for 48 hours but keep them in a cooler room and then put them back out in the afternoon when the outside temp, is at it's warmest so they ahve time to adjst before the evening chill sets in.

Elvis Bear is back to himself

The vet gave him another injection today and checked him, he is fine. Back to his hungry self. Did put him back in the house today, put a new chew tube in, they are knawing it to pieces. So good to see him back to normal, so worrying. The vet said his coat will be fine and ok to put him out in his house.
So happy!!!!!
