Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

hello everyone, i have just given pepe his 5th day of panacur for worms, the problem is i didn't turn the little wheel down to one dose :( so he got 4 days worth all in one go.
I phoned the vets straight away & told them what i had done & asked them what can happen to pepe, i am very disappointed in them, they said they can't find any data on panacur & they must of lost it. Only to keep an eye on him & call them if he goes ill, but they close at 6pm so they have not been any help at all to us.
Can anyone on here help me at all, as i am worring sick.
I just can't believe i have done this, as i have the same kind of wormer tubes for my horses & have give the rabbits the same wormer before & i have never done this.
Any help at all & i will be so grateful. x

I am not 100% sure but i believe it is virtually impossible to overdose on panacur with any ill effects to buns. I can't find any literature on it so possibly it is not seen as a huge problem. Just keep a close eye on bun just to be sure. I am sure you will get more replies of reassurance

Recent research has shown rabbits can safely have up to 50mgs per kg per day of Fenbendazole (the active ingrediant) for a few months with no ill effects (this isn't to say they should be having this dose) and the usual dose is 20mgs per kg.

A member a few months back gave a whole tube in one go and her rabbit was fine....keep an eye on him and make sure he drinks plenty of water & eats lots of hay, but he should be OK.
