  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My vet recommended i get some of this and pack it into Sorrel's abcess - well, the hole where the abcess used to be.

I got some and it's rock hard, the hole is only small, what am I supposed to do?! Could i soften it with a tiny bit of hot water and syringe it in?

Thankyou

Manuka honey should not be hard:shock::shock:I would get out what you need, about a teaspoon, and put it in a glass then put the glass in some warm water until the honey becomes pliable then put It in the wound. What strength honey did you get?

it's not hard as in genuinely like a rock, but it's set honey rather than runny, and it's really stiff. i definitely wouldnt get it in a syringe.

i got 6+ but reading through other threads it seems I should've got 10+ ....neither the vet nor the health food shop man mentioned that....is it worth replacing it with the stronger stuff?

bother, not what i needed in my current financial state

still the other one will go on my toast I suppose. thanks for the glass/hot water tip, I will try it.
