Domesticated rats rarely bite....they are absolutely wonderful pets x

I love rats, and hope to get a couple in 2 years. Can't wait to have my own. The swimming rat is so cute.

Pet rats are probably the rodent least likely to bite you and by far are the most responsive and affectionate. I've had 3 and they never made to bite me in the 4 years they lived. Been bitten plenty times in the past by my pet gerbils and hamsters.

I got my first group a year and half ago

I took Aubery, Zeke, Billy and Harry who were brothers

Aubery who is still with me today, but very old



Zeke, also still with me but again is very old and the pair of them aren't well so I know they don't have long left and I am just enjoying my time with them now



Billy who went to the bridge a few months after they came to live with me, he was quite ill when I adopted them



And Harry who went to the bridge a few weeks ago



After Billy died I took in a baby lad called Finn. He hung out with the older boys for a month or two while I looked for some friends of his own age, he died in his sleep a week before his first gotcha day with me





Then I went to England to visit a rat rescue and adopted Flip and Wyatt, who lived with Finn for almost a year





Last winter I took in Reuben, he was my friends rat but all his cagemates had died of old age and the plan was to introduce him to Aubery, Zeke and Harry. But he was very sick when I got him and they wouldn't accept him into their group. We decided he would stay with me because he then at least had the chance to free range with my boys and get some ratty company but he was living in a seperate cage by himself and spending every minute I was home sitting on my shoulder or in his carry pouch





He was my special boy and I miss him so much all the time
