how chatty is your vet?

cheekytikki

Wise Old Thumper
teegs had his VHD jab today (had his myxi 2 weeks ago and saw a woman vet which is the one who called him a pig) well saw a bloke we hadnt see before, today (he wasnt too shabby either ;) ) and he was so chatty for the first visit (normally if we have been to a vet we know well they do chat but new ones tend to do the treatment and that is it) i got teegra out and he had a cuddle with him and was calling him teegs (must be something about teegra needs to be shortened) he did the jab and kept stroking him then said they are house buns arent they? (either its on the file or he is a member of RU in which case i will be very embarrased about previous comment about him not being too shabby  ) he was then asking if they were house trained and what sort of diet they were on then Jessi came out for a quick cuddle and gave him an almighty great thump  then we stood and chatted bunny rabbits for a bit.

so how chatty are your vets? it is quite nice to drag a 2 minuted appointment out into 10 minutes  especially when its chatting about bun buns

Pretty much same, they ask lots of questions and make sure everything is clear and explained etc.

Its good to have a good relationship with them :)

my old vet down south was loverly to chat too as well as very easy on the eye too *sigh* biggles went for his first check when he was little and hated the first lady then i took him back for his jabs and got this  lovely guy for which biggle absolutly loved him to he cuddled and i chatted away for around 15 mins

I love my vet he is awesome - He natters on and on (but I do too ) I know he adores Ivy no matter what bunny I take in he always asks after Ivy, but it's not just bunnies he natters on about..... he'll tell me all about his little girl, or what his o/h gets up to, how soon is too soon to ask the landlord to allow him to have pets, etc - he's ever so chatty, - but then again so am I

Ours doesn't say much, he looks at us oddly like we are nutters especially when Wayne kisses Bunnie and says "You're a brave little princess" just after her jab:lol::lol:

He good rabbit savvy vet though and talks when it matters:)

Mine is lovely - I always ask for her even for the routine stuff now as she knows us and is always so pleased to see Gregory and ask how he is etc!

Apart from the one who is allergic to rabbits and one other who obviously didn't want to touch one of my rats, every other vet I have seen has been really chatty and nice :)

Aunty Honor

Our vet is now called Aunty as we spend so much time there. She has just come back this way so we followed her (sad isn't it) but we had some bad experinces with vets when she went. MAN scared to touch my buns, said bun would be sick if he was poorly and missed Angels tear duct causing bad swellen. She loves all animals but is a real rabbit vet what she doesn't know isn't worth knowing. All our web page is what we learnt from her she now gives people our site when they go with buns. www.hoppybunnyrabbit.com
If wasn't for her we would not have found Angel at a rescue, she tells everyone to rescue.
She also features in our diary Not just a rabbit. Which will be on sale very soon. All to raise awareness about bunnies and money (hopefully) for our 2 charities.
£6.99 so watch out for it!

I love my vet she's brilliant, so's her nurse, we often have a good natter and at times we've even had a good ol giggle. :)

Very, I took Poppy to see Anneke tonight for her Vaccinations and a 5 minute appintment took 45 minutes because she always asks after all the rabbits (she only see's them to vax & castrate).

With Anita it isn't unheard of for a 10 minute appointment to run to 40 minutes and once I had her and Rob both in with me. The evils I got from the waiting room when we all walked out of the consulting room with just one rabbit :oops:.

We've just changed vets. Nothing particularly wrong with the old ones, but they ran an open surgery, so you were never quite sure who you were going to see and some vets were distinctly better than others.

There is a new surgery open, run by one vet and two vet nurses, and the vet specialises in bunnies. She seems fab so far and is very chatty, is interested in the bunnies and their history. When I took them the first time for their VHD jabs, we were there for 30 minutes for 5 bunnies. She was very thorough in her checks.

My vet isn't chatty at all :( I'd love one who was, but all the others are in the middle of town and it's a bit of a nightmare to find a space and walk them there, especially when they're restless. Another vet at my vets (who seems to be a doggie vet) is really nice and chatty - spoke to her once, would really like her to be my vet instead

Has anyone asked to have a different vet in the same practice? e.g. like you'd ask for another hairdresser? x

i think the vet we saw for moms cats on saturday must be a cat woman... she was really chatty.... we deffo went over the 20mins allocated to us :lol::lol:

they usually just ask the questions to assess health not really chatty... time is money ya know

One of my practices is run & owned by a single vet....so no choice there and at the others I always ask to see either Anita or Rob. I don't think it's common practice for you to be assigned to one vet unless you specifically ask for them.

you can ask for a specific vet hun :D i always ask for the exotics vet if i take the buns in.. but they automatically make an appoinment with the correct vet anyhows unless they are on hols

Cool, thanks hon - I don't really know my vet very well tbh, she's never really seemed very interested, we've had no problems, I just think their could be nicer ones somewhere :) they will be booked in for their next VHD/Myxi jabs soon so I think I'll decide whether to stay with her or request someone else, I just don't want to be "I don't like you, I want another vet" type thing and embarress myself/her :S

It's quite a small practice too so I feel like I have less choice I suppose. x
