  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Stringy poo's

Noticed this morning that Floppy has had some stringy poos, is that the correct way of saying this? its like there joined together, -0-0- kind of thing ;) only one or two, i've read somewhere this is hair but can't seem to find it now :? he has had pineapple once a week for 2 weeks now coz i read this is good for them ;) what do i have to do and is it anything i should be worried about?

Yep, it's hair! If that's your bunny in your avatar then I'm guessing (s)he's quite fluffy? You can help by making sure you groom your bunny regularly to help remove the loose hair rather than it being ingested during grooming. Some people give bromelain tablets whereas others (including me) use pineapple and papaya tablets (from The Hay Experts). Lots of hay and water will also help to keep the guts moving!

Don't worry too much tho - Sienna or Dudley once made me a "necklace" of 13 poos  Just remember that a bunny who stops eating needs quick medical attention in case there is a blockage in the gut.

My bunny is prone to stringy poo too, i find if i stroke her with a damp hand it all sticks to me.
This is the only way I can do it as she isn't keen on a brush.
