Help Please!

I've had my lion head rabbit since April. And originally I had a lot of time for her but I ended up going into a deep depression about a month after we got her and it lasted a long time. So needless to say I haven't been the owner I've wanted and should have been and I feel horrible for it. But I want to start over and be a good owner. My only problem is Penelope runs at me when i open then cage and I'm afraid of her honestly. And I want to socialize her but i dont know how with her charging me. PLEASE HELP!

 Has she been spayed? Female buns can be very naughty once their hormones kick in. My female bun is too small to be spayed yet, but she growls, grunts and stamps at everyone.

Aww sorry youve been poorly :(

Is she neutered?? Also, i guess shes quite 'wild' now if shes been out there without human contact... so i suggest maybe sitting near her cage, talking to her so she gets used to your voice, offering small treats gradually. Then maybe you could start to put your hand, see if she will come over and sniff you etc... thing is shes probably very scared. She just needs to gain your trust :) Penelope is a lovely name :) xXx

You need to let her know that you're not a threat and you bring food :) it's a great way of bonding with your bunny and in time she will learn that you're no threat. Agree with above also, she sounds like she's got loadsa hormones and would be good to get spayed :) how much space does she have to run around in during the day? If she's getting enough exercise too this should help x

I am really sorry to hear that you have been out of sorts, but very glad to know that you are on the mend. I agree with the above, cant really add much other than give her time and patience .

oh I really hope you manage to bond with her. From personal experience Ive found having a close bond with a furry friend is as effective for me as the anti-depressants. They have a wonderful healing effect! Good luck:)

URGENT help! PLEEEEASE!

Hi,

My 2 bunnies Louis and Lilia were bonded over the weekend by a rescue for me. They were getting on great but for the past 30 mins or so they have been fighting. There is no screaming and, from what I can see, no blood. They chase each other and flip around the dog crate and there is some fur flying around.

What should we do? :( Please help :(

I am so sorry...I didn't mean to post this here :(

Sorry

thank you everyone. and we just got her a new cage that is plenty room for her to run around and she has a play yard. that i'm going to try and connect to the cage.
I tried to talk to her today and she seems to be calming down.
and I'm seeing my vet about the spaying. THANK YOU EVERYONE!

when i had depression willow was my saviour without her i dont think i would have got through it-all humans were the enemy. So persevere with your bun as you never know when you may need him.

yes, you need the good love of a bun  the more time you spend with her the more she will get to know you are friend and not scary big person.
Do you keep your bun indoor or out door? I find it easier to spend time with buns indoors where yiu can relax and be yourself, get on with things whilst your bun gets used to being around you. If you keep her outdoors it might be an idea to bring her indoors to socialise with her. If you are afraid of handling her wear some good thick gloves to avoid any possible nips or scratches.

I hope your are feeling better now. It's not nice feeling that low and i know sometimes you just don't want to be around the animals. She will come round i am sure, especially if you get her spayed as mentioned :) Bonding with her will make you feel even happier :D

Stay positive

xx

yeah shes an indoor bunny. and there was a post further up that mentioned she may just be excited. haha And i think she was. like she was fine today and she normally only does it around the time to eat. So i started feeding her earlier and shes fine. But I'm spending a lot more time with her

Aww, sounds a bit like my new bunny velvet, when she was kept in a smaller space on her own before bonded she would rush suddenly towards me when i came in the door. When i gave her food she would dart forward and push her paws down on it to claim it  She is alot more lively than my my docile lazy male lop captain and makes very sudden movements
