Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Help, Bella's poorly

Sabella

New Kit
She had conjunctivitis about 3 months ago which we treated with eye drops. It cleared up and she was fine.

No it looks like she has something similar but a little worse. Her eyes have lots of yellowish crustiness around. She has a snotty nose and is wet all round her mouth as if she been dribbling :(

I'm trying to get her into the vets today but I'm so worried because I know how fast they can deterioate(sp?) :(

Do you think it's something serious?

Bella

Hi,

They do deteriorate quickly, but sounds like you're already on top of it so try not to worry to much.

Let us know what the vet says.

Out of interest is Bella still eating and pooing ok?

It sounds like she could have dental problems. Did the vet check her teeth the last time?
Rabbits usually dribble from their mouth when they have spurs on their teeth that have started rubbing on their cheeks or tongue, and infection in the eyes and nose can be caused by tooth roots pushing up into the jaw.
If it is her teeth the vet will be able to burr the spurs off and that will take some of the pressure off the roots as well.

Hope Bella gets on ok at the vets.
