this morning i went to my local petshop to pick up some supplies for buddy and i was shocked and upset to see a fully grown beautiful lop in a tiny tiny hutch!!! this was the hutch the poor thing was in! she couldnt even stand on her back legs properly!!
there was a price tag of £50 for both the rabbit and the hutch
i asked the lady who owns the shop about the rabbit and she said that the rabbit had been given up because the owner was pregnant and that was the hutch she came in. i was trying to make a fuss of the rabbit through the bars so the lady said i could get her out but to be careful because she jumps straight out the cage! she said she thought she jumped straight out because she thought she was once a house rabbit but its obvious she just wants to escape the tiny hutch!
i asked whether the rabbit was male or female and the lady said she didnt actually know!! i couldnt believe that someone would keep the poor thing in that horrible hutch and give it away in it and not even bother to tell the people you were giving it to its name or age!!!
its absolutely broken my heart and i desperately want to do something to help her but i can't. i still live with my parents and they dont want another animal!! the owner of the shop and my mum both told me not to worry about it as it will get a home but it will probably get a home where someone thinks its a bargain to buy a rabbit and hutch for £50 and keep it in that hutch for the rest of its life!!
i can't stop thinking about it!!
