  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

New Kit
I got a bunny from a girl a few weeks ago. She told me that the little bunny was 4 weeks old. She cannot bend any of her limbs under her. She looks like someone would have dropped her from up high, like she is in a splatted position. She is not in any pain and gets around in her own way. But her poop sticks to her and I have to bathe her. She is very friendly and is a happy little bunny. Has anyone ever heard of this before?

Why was the Bun removed from her Mum at 4 weeks ?
Has she been examined by a Vet?

The problem could be congenital ( a birth 'defect') or the result of injury. Either way she needs a Vet to examin her.

How is the poor little bunny today?

Has she always been like this? or is it something that has just developed?
If she has always been like it sounds like she has splay legs, if this is the case she will need very special care to prevent her getting urine burn or pressure sores.

We run a sanctuary for special needs bunnies, if we can be of any help or support to you please let me know :D

I had a bun like that years ago he was sooooo friendly. We had to wipe his bum every day and be very careful of fly strike. He only made it to 6 months old as he got too heavy for his legs to support him and couldnt get around without being in pain :(

Some buns are born with splay leg, which can sometimes be corrected if the bunny is treated by a vet in time.

I guess it could also be caused by nutritional deficiencies if the baby has been taken away from mum too early :(

Sounds like he definitely needs to see a vet
