Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Dental bunnies

Young Bun
Does anyone else have a dental bunny?

Molly has to have her Molars burred every 3 months and last time it was only 9 weeks. I'm concerned that she will not be able to cope with the GA for ever.

Is there any other treatment she could have?

Can anyone that has a dental bunny recommend a diet that helps?

She is 3 1/2 years old and does come round very well from that GA at the moment and eats very well.

Advice and tips, please.

She is currently munching on excel forage.

Cheers, Louise

The best thing for wearing molars down is hay, hay and more hay. Not easy with many dental buns because often they won't (or can't) eat hay.

Do you know of any vets in your area who do conscious dentals? or possibly even a vet willing to do it under a very light sedation.

I have quite a few dental buns, and all of mine are done without GA.

Hi, I have a dental bunny and he has his molars done once a month (he will not eat hay whatever I have tried). My vet does them conscious so he does not have to have a GA.

I have never heard of a vet rasping molars without a GA.

I will ask my vet the next time I have to go in with Molly.

Does anyone know of a vet in the Bristol area that does dentals (molars) without GA?

Louise

Hi, I think they are burred rather than rasped. It can be difficult to find a vet that does them conscious but it could be an option going forward if they need doing more regularly.
