Scrawny bunny

Sallypaws

Young Bun
My brother and sister pair of English lops are approaching 5 months old now and will be neutered/spayed soon.

Thing is Jeremy has always been a bit scrawny compared to Jess.
I have watched them while yhey are eating and Jess does not bully him out of the way or anything.

I thought by now Jeremy would have caught up with Jess in size but no and in fact this week seems to have lost more weight.

Needless to say he is going to the vets tomorrow after work for a MOT and i was going to get him wormed and his teeth checked.

Any other things it could be or things i can do to 'bulk' him out?

He is absolutely fine in himself, eating, drinking, poing, weeing, playing........ it's just his appearance and weight thats worrying me

Any suggestions?

cheers

Sally x

I would ask for a blood test to make sure his kidneys are functionally properly.porridge is good for fattening up bunnies but as he is so young I think there maybe an underlying problem. Please let us know how he gets on Sally:wave::wave:

They are on the adult Burgess Excel now (had been on the junior but i weened them accross).
Noticed this morning his appetite is not massive even for the hay which he usualy scoffs.

Hay wise it's usually a mixture of 3-4 different types.

The worrying thing is with him always being scrawny - maybe it is something really underlying :(

i wil let you know how we get on this afternoon at the vets

thanks very much x

Sorry for the delay - stupid internet connections been down!

My vet Mel did a through check up and said even though Jess was bigger than Jeremy she was still a bit 'bony' too - it was just Jeremy looks thinner.
She weighed them both and they are both healthy weights (i had checked with the lady i got them from for the correct weights they should be at this age and she rememinded me Jeremy had always been smaller than Jess, even when they were kits)

Full temp, teethcheck, heartcheck, tummy feel etc and she said they are in excellent condition.
She sees them every 2 weeks at the moment while i am waiting for Jeremy to drop his ummm....bits  so i can get them spayed/castrated and she said herself she sees no change.

To prove her right when i got them home Jeremy was binkying all over the spot , tripping over his ears nand tucking into a bowl of hay with dandelions in hidden in the middle while Jess just laid on her blanket chilling out

Maybe i am being a bit over cautious?
My previous buns were mini-lops and fat little piggies from the start so i never really saw them growing.

I feel a bit like a over anxious mother now!
Thanks for all your comments

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Glad they're both fine :D

i find that sun flower seeds are great for their fur and also they are good at putting abit of weight on a rabbit (just need a pinch). that's what i used for mine when she went abit skinny + veg oil ( just alittle bit) is great as well. :) hope this helps

Sally im so happy for you and sorry for being negative about Jeremy. Please forgive me:oops::oops:

You were not being negetive at all!!!!
it's so comforting having support from fellow bunny people as other people just think i'm a freak for keeping indoor bunnies in the first place let alone worrying about them!!!

Thanks again guys :p
