  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Spot on will they lick it off eachother?

I got spot on anti mite & tics etc because for my bunnies because I'm very paranoid about mites ever since my guinea pig caught them once, so I want to be extra careful. I have to apply it to their necks but they love to groom eachother will they lick it off one another and poison themselves or something :S??

I think as long as you get a treatment specifically for rabbits and follow the instructions you should be fine.

You should avoid them ingesting it! So I would observe them for an hour after application and stop them licking it off! If they are indoors it should be absorbed sufficiently in half an hour, but outdoors in the cooler temps, it will take approx 1 hour. x

Well they're indoor bunnies, thanks alot for your help :)

I thought spot on wasn't suitable for rabbits? Do check it out-Sue:wave:

there is one that is now licensed for rabbits but for the life of me i cant remember which one. i dont use them as ithink too many chemicals is bad for a bunny. if they do catch mites then a course of injections from your vet will sort it out. i am usually more concerned with fly strike during summer and use rear gaurd as this stops eggs hatching if laid xx
