Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Quick spaying/neuturing question

My sister has just adopted two baby bunnies - 8 weeks old - Albert and Annie.

They live together and are quite happy and content but obviously we have to be aware of the first signs of hormones kicking in.

What is the best way of going about the spaying and neuturing process as I am aware that the boys are ready to be de-plummed earlier than the girlies?

Also, how early could a young doe become pregnant?

dont keep them together as i think its 12 weeks that they can be pregnant from. i believe most vets will go on weight with speyeing some reccomend being 6 months though im not sure how true that is. males can be neutered as soon as thier balls drop to be crude. i would keep in cages next to each other so can see adn smell each other and reintroduce after neuters xxx

I wouldn't keep them together at the moment, your doe could become pregnant at 12 weeks. Most vets recommend spaying at 6 months, however they can do it by about 5 months if they are a medium to large breed (and obviously if they are the correct weight for their age). As mentioned above bucks can be done earlier, as soon as their testicles decend! I'd query this with your vet asap.

If you still allow them to see each other, preferably through their cages, they should be easier to re-bond after their ops! But remember it's not recommended to reintroduce them immediately after their ops as their hormones can still be at higher levels and need time to settle. Waiting will increase your chance of a successful re-bonding! x
