  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

rabbit cystitis?!

my 2 year old female seems to have something wrong with her...her back end is constantly covered in dried urine and runny mess. she had bleeding sores on her genitals yesterday which are better today as iv cleaned them up. however they still appear to be very sorry and not normal. she also appears to be swollen around her genital area and possibly bloated?!

i have cleaned her up and will take her to the vets in a couple of days if it doesnt clear up. but anyone have any idea what it could be?! I had her spayed about 4 months ago, not sure if there is any relevance.

It doesn't sound like cystitis to me. I'm afraid I don't know what it could be, but it definitely sounds like she needs vet treatment.

yer..thats what im thinking...thurs might be the earliest i can take her tho, shes eating and drinking at least.

would cystitis be blood actually discharging out of her back end?! Cos you might be right as it appears to just be on the sores.

sorry noticed a typing error in the original post - should say 'sore' not 'sorry'!!

I would call the vets and explain the situation, they may be more concerned and fit you in earlier, but would book anyway, even for a checkup on the situation
