Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. losing hair???

ktdt

New Kit
hi my bun Shadow is an outdoor bun and i have noticed over the last week that he seems to be losing quiet alot of hair?! i just wondered why this could be??? i thought he should be getting his winter coat and it thickening up now.
Do you think it is because it was quiet cold and now seems to have warmed up again???
On a few occasions i have seen a few tufts of hair rather then lots of loose hair (iykwim) but i have checked him over and he seems fine. is there anything i should look for or does it sound normal???:?

Could he just be moulting?

Rabbits are having strange moults at the moment because of the messed up weather. It does seem to take about 3 weeks or so after a weather change to induce a moult, so maybe he is moutling out his summer fur and getting his winter fur?

Have you run your hand over him backwards to see if you can see the new fur growing through? If you run your hand over him backwards also look for fleas, flea dirt, dandruff, scabs or anything like that, which might give you an indication if there is a skin issue causing the moult.

How is his behaviour generally and food intake? pooing? weeing?

hiya thanks for your reply, He is fine in himself, i havent run my hand over him backwards but will do that tomorrow. His coat is really glossy and nice looking and he is a very clean bun. :)

Did think he could just be maulting but thought he was ment to be getting a winter coat so got a bit confused lol :?

I have just given him a really good groom cos i didnt want him to get hair balls, it only seems to be his lighter coloured under coat that is coming away his top black coat is fine. Does this sound like molting?

He is only 6 months old too so didnt know if they get an adult coat?!
