She is fostering him for Kris at Starlight. He came in with an awful eye infection, believe it or not he has actually got better
(pics do make it look worse than it is)! His eyes are still bad but are not sealing over within 20 mins now :cry:
Alison's has had him about a week now, her vet has put him on a different antibiotic which seems to be working.
He has already had a lot of vet treatment and will need a lot more...I am thinking of a good fundraiser to do for this boy...but any donations will be most welcome ;)

I love this little chap, he is so calm, and doesn't even struggle when Alison was squeezing the pus out of his eye..

He has a long way to go but when he is better he will be looking for a very special home, he will need to be a house bunny as, due to a op his tear duct drains down his cheek, so he'll be at higher risk of fly strike :cry: we are also not sure how his eye sight will be affected, he needs a knowledgeable, experienced owner. Well done Kris and Alison for taking care of this special boy :love:

Really?, he is gorgeous:love::love::love::love:

Jesus christ
I hope the pics do make it look worse, its looks bloody painful and sore.

Poor little chap.
xoxox

Hope he recovers well.

:wave: I have to say, although his eyes are bad, those pics really do make it look 10 times worse than it is, I will try and get some nice daylight photos at the weekend. Also I had just cleaned his eyes before these pics, so a lot of the wetness around his eyes is from me and my damp cotton wool pads rather than directly from his eyes.

Today was the first day since he's been here that his left eye was still open when I went to see him this morning, so it is definitely getting better. He is putting on weight and getting more active and less sleepy, so I think he is feeling better too - the change in antibiotic seems to have made a big difference. Poor Kris must have been pretty much constantly cleaning and de-gunking them previously :shock:

I think he will always be a bit of a 'special needs' bun - but do wonder whether a loving female bun will help to keep his eyes clean in the longer term - but he is certainly a fighter, a character and a lovely, gentle boy, who deserves every chance :love:

Im so glad he is getting better, Even when both eyes were sealed shut, he was all soppy wanting a cuddle and nose rub:love:

He really is a special boy, and despite all he has been through, has so much love to give:love:

I really hope that Eddie will continue to respond well to his treatment.
If I win the lottery and get my smallholding in Devon I'll be applying to adopt Eddie !!

Alison, can you tell us a bit about what happened to Eddie's eyes ?

Awwww, he's gorgeous and sounds like a wonderful little man, given all he has to put up with. I'm glad to hear that the change in antibiotics seems to be helping and hopefully the improvement will continue; his eyes don't look half as red as they did in the photos on the other thread. :love:

:wave: Morning! You may remember when Eddie arrived at Kris' that he had very poorly eyes and his previous owner had been treating him with human eye medication :( Kris took him to her vets and he has been on baytril and eye drops for a long old while, but his eyes were just getting worse and worse - very sore and lots of pus. He's also had his tear ducts flushed several times but they seem to be completely blocked so they've been unable to ever flush through properly, and it looks as if he has an old corneal ulcer on his right eye so it looks as if it's been a pretty deep-seated problem.

Kris' vet is working with an ophthalmic specialist at the moment, and my understanding is that because the tear duct seems to be totally blocked, they've done an op (on his left eye only at the moment) to create a new tear duct opening on the outside. Personally I'd have thought that even if the op was the best thing to do, that aggressive antibiotics first would have been needed to reduce the amount of pus - as rabbit pus, unlike other domestic animals, is incredibly thick and gloopy and doesn't drain easily. Unfortunately after the surgery the pus has been collecting around Eddie's eye and it has been sealing his eye together with alarming regularity. But with a change in antibiotics and lots of complicated cleaning, it's now starting to clear up and the swelling is reducing, and the opening is now dripping pus (yuk!) For the second day in a row he had both eyes still open this morning :D

Does that make sense :?

Tell me about it :lol::lol:

He's put on 200g in the past week though, so he's feeling much better now :D I think it must be a combination of the antibiotics getting better control of the infection, coupled with a daily helping of AuntyA's special porridge mix :lol:
