  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hi, havent been on here for ages and got to be quick as im at work. my bun Hector (conti giant) is drinking and weeing loads. In 24hrs he went through a 1.1 litre water bottle. I dont think this is right. I use wooden based cat littler and over night it was full of wee. any ideas? thanks

Bladder or kidney problems spring to mind. He could have something as simple as cystitis, or he could have renal failure due to EC or something similar.

He needs the vets whatever the reason really.

if that isnt normal for him then i woudl get him to avet bladder infectio nsprings to mind but yes scystitus could be apossiblilty or kidney probs or diabetes... a good vet would be able to tell you more fornow give him 2 bowls of water adn two bottles so he always has a large supply(oh and just checking if he has a salt lick remove it so it doesnt cause deydration) not sure the normal amount of water for a giant im afraid but good luck xx

I would panacur him to be on the safe side. If it continues get him vet checked. They will probably suggest a blood test to rule out kidney problems, it could also be an infection. It is unlikely to be diabetes this isn't found in domestic rabbits.

Hi, his water intake is fine again today. Like you say i will pancur him and keep an eye on him. If i see hes drunk lots in 24hrs again i will get him off to the vets asap.:)
