I am dreading it. She is having a whole lot of trouble with her eyes just lately as in all yukky gunk coming out of them and really sore and raw where I have to keep bathing them (this time though it is the worst it has been) She as been on Maxitrol for 4wks and it just hasn't cleared it. She is probably going to have an xray as a few weeks ago I was told that it really could have something to do with her teeth roots:cry: even though up until may this year she as never had any trouble with her teeth or eyes.
I am dreading it as you all know what my luck as been like this last couple of weeks, I really cannot face it if I lose another one of my giants:cry:

:( It's so hard when somebun you love is not looking so good, and even worse when you have had many tragedies and tough times. I hope this is something solvable and they figure out what it is.

Thinking of you both.

Just got back with Jasmine, she is going in on Friday for xrays, tear duct flushing, and a good old check around her mouth as she as got a scab under her chin and inside her mouth also one of her eyes is quite swollen. she is on Baytril and Metacam as well as her eye drops until friday. She is still eating so at least that is something but it is only 4wks ago since she had tear ducts and a good old root round in her mouth:roll:

I know how you feel. My breeding doe, Jezebel, had the exact same problem. They found in the x-rays that her teeth weren't growing right and that it is affecting the tear duct and it becomes blocked. I am sure she will be fine. Good Luck

good luck! i'm sure she'll be fine!
i have 3 rabbits with eye problems so i know how you feel! 2 of them are related to teeth!

winnies angel
17-10-2008, 06:01 PM
Angel has eye trouble which last year we spent about 8-900 getting flushed etc. She is now on eye drops for life but she doesnt get flushing anymore, we find fucithalmic (think) is the best for us other drops were rubbish. If its bad we put in twice a day if good once a day. I also found flushing seems to make it worse as it gooes more I would try flushing for couple of times to get guck out then let rest with eyedrops if poss. We had med to we had to inject her but she doesnt need it anymore.
Teeth how long ago was your last dental you may need them done. Angels roots are prob to blame showed up on x-rays she has very deformed mouth teeth all over growing under her gums etc. If it isnt her teeth then they could also create a channel from her eye so the goo will run down throat and not effect eye, that was going to be an option for us.

Jasmine as had all her xrays and everything and the xrays show that there as been some consideable changes to her left side of the pallet making some of the roots pushing on the tearduct but they have also sent swabs off as they think pasturella is also playing apart in the gunge. We are putting her on Depocillin to see if that helps any and if it does then we will use it indefinately. and we are using Exocin eyedrops.
Just glad she is home and we can manage her condition as I was a little apprehensive yesterday thinking allsorts after the last couple of weeks.
Thank you for all your vibes as they obviously worked on her:D

Arr poor little love, I hope Jasmine improves well. Kay we should keep in touch and 'compare notes' on how things are going - Jasmine's problem sounds very similar to Eddie's, who I am fostering at the mo: http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/showthread.php?t=151208

It is exactly 4 wks and Jasmine eyes are really bad again:(. this means she will have to have another GA to flush the tear ducts because of her teeth roots moving. I am going to speak to my vet tomorrow as she will have been under a GA 3 times in the last 8wks ( this is including the one she will have to have now). Am I being fair to her as even the penicillin, eyedrops and metacam isn't helping her. She looks really out of condition:cry:

Aww Kay, poor Jasmine.

You are the only person who knows how Jasmine is coping with things and you are in the best place to decide, but hey, if shes still boxing with you then her spirit is still there! Hope the chat with the vet goes well.

 Kay, I'm really sorry to hear about Jasmine :( Poor girly :(

I have had some buns here that have terrible trouble with eyes, noses etc of which the majority is to do with tooth roots. As a last chance I started them on Septrin and Metronidazole - we use 0.6 of Septrin per kg and quarter of a tablet of Metronidazole - this is twice daily, and the results have been fantastic :D:D:D Our vet was amazed at the change in the buns and is now using it with other buns with tooth root, eye and nose problems:D

We where chatting to Jane Dexter and she had an awful lot of snuffly and teeth related buns, she spoke to her vet after we recommended the drugs and her buns are doing really well:D:D Her vet is now using the treatment for other buns:D

I would honestly try Jasmine on this treatment for a couple of weeks - it could be the answer - I'm not saying for certainty that it is but it really is worth a try and I know that I would use it with any other buns who presented with these problems.

I truly hope that something can be done to help Jasmine - she is lucky to have someone as caring as you are to do everything for her:D

Hiya Kay,

You and jasmine are both fighters - and it ain't over til the fat lady sings! Seriously though, you'll know deep down what to do. i know how much you love her and i can't even begin to imagine how you are feeling. Ill be thinking of you both and sending loads of vibes from everyone here (including the other half, Ste!) that Jasmine is comfortable and happy - whatever the outcome.

Sending loves and kisses to all of you xxx

Bless her she must be in some pain

Aswell as the meds Jay has suggested perhaps the Vet could prescribe a more heavy duty analgesic aswell as the Metacam. Also, if she has been on Metacam for a while some Ranitidine (Zantac) might be useful incase she has developed some GI ulceration.

Will be thinking of you today
