Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My bun has stiff back legs

Jester

New Kit
Hi all, I got two bunnies from the RSPCA last week. They are both adult and we have noticed that Brucie has very stiff back legs. When he moves they sometimes drag behind a bit and when you pick him up they remain in whatever position he is in. He also sometimes walks using all four legs (like a cat etc) rather than hopping. I took them to the vet for a general health check last week and he suggested Brucie may have been kicked or dropped and he hasn't healed quite right. He never seems in any pain at all and is very active regardless of his leggies. He is missing one eye and so may well have been through the wars a bit. I was just wondering if anyone here thought it might be arthritis (is it common in buns?) or any other condition I could help him with. Should i get any supplements or treatments? Are there any experts who could give a better guess as to why his legs are stiff?

Thank you!

I actually wondered if it could be EC because lazy back legs (left in particular) can be a sign of EC.

It might be worth having x-rays and scans to work out if there has been an injury or is some wear and tear, but it could be many things really.
