The Duchess
Wise Old Thumper
Just wanted to start a thread for those folks who have owned, read or both, a book about rabbits or rabbit care that was total rubbish and should be taken out of circulation.
I go to the car boots to buy books either in case they are any good (although I have most of them) but to also get hold of any before someone who doesn't know any better buys them and thinks that they are getting good information.
Today I bought three books from the same lady. I would recommend that anyone new to rabbits doesn't bother to believe most of what is in them.
Their titles are:
Rabbits As A New Pet by Barry Martin - Horrid little book in my opinion and I realise that it's written a while ago but please!!! I feel so sad that they put pictures of cage bottomed rabbit blocks and think that this is good advice! Also, apparently it's okay to feed your bunnies oranges:shock::shock:
Then we have The Complete Guide to Owning a Rabbit by Anne Lindsay Again a horrid, inaccurate book that recommends rawhide treats used for rats and other rodents - she says that because rabbits share the same characteristics then they can have the same food! She also recommends Chick-n-Cheez Oodles - made with chicken meal and cheese protein -AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH.
Lastly, Pet Owner's Guide to the Rabbit by Marianne Mays- this one wasn't so bad when it started off but again is quite out-dated. It does stress that it should always be an adult that is responsible for the animal so that's good, but it says that rabbits and piggies will live together quite happily and will become good friends.
What rabbit care books have you seen or got in your library that you would cheerfully burn or put in the shredder?
