Advice Please re Endoscopy

Becki xX

Warren Veteran
Rhias in for a repeat radiograph tomorrow and possible endoscopy, but I'm having second thoughts :? A couple of people I've spoken to have had an endoscopy themselves & seem shocked that Im allowing it to be done; apparently its very painful afterwards? I hate to think of her being in pain, and Okay, if its going to find us an answer & mean recovery for her then Im all for it, but shes going through a real lot. Im now beginning to wonder whether the outcome of all this will be worth it, opposed to just letting her live out her life. The other option is trying different medication first. Help :?

She isn't recovering quite as hoped & they are wondering whether its just permanent scarring or something like a foreign body/tumor is causing trouble X

Well the proceedure itself should not be a problem for her. I assume its a Rabbit specialist doing it as the endoscope will need to be very small.
Has she had an Ultrasound ?
What 'different medication' has the Vet suggested ?

Yep, Specialist is doing it. 99% sure she had an ultrasound last time, shes had alsorts so have lost track a bit of what she has & hasnt had done. We didnt go into the other medication as I wanted to go straight into finding out whats going on in there, we're hoping they'll be able to see better this time as the last scan she had they couldnt see anything because she was such a mess inside with the fluid & thickening etc

Well I am assuming they would only progress to endoscopy if an U/S was inconclusive :?
Whilst various diagnostics are often possible I would want to know if they are likely to offer any more treatment options :? Sometimes diagnostics may give us a nice clinical diagnosis but no more treatment options than could have been tried at the outset to 'see if it helped'.
So I guess my advice would be to ask the Vet how Rhia may benefit from having the endoscopy, what treatment options might be offered if a tumour or a F/B were found ?

Obviously every decision we make is based on how Rhia will benefit. The reason I wanted to get in there & find out what is wrong, if anything aside from permanent scarring, is because I have messed around so many times before with previous rabbits switching different medications etc and all it has ended up doing is loosing precious time. Going through what we would do 'if..' isn't really an option as there could be such a huge range of stuff going on, could be her heart thats the problem & the lungs were just a secondary to that, or as I said, growths etc. And yes, your right that they are only going to do the endoscopy if they find nothing from this second scan :)
