What to do about money

Lillian

Warren Veteran
We haven't had any luck with getting homes for the last few bunnies, and we don't have the money for there injections. What are our options? I know they must have there injections especially around this time of year as myxi cases get high around here in october. I really dont want the babies to go to a rescue as i want to know who they are with and get regular updates etc. I don't think our vet will give a discount or anything, we got 11 rabbits all needing injections.. What can we do to get that kind of money? :(

Is it not possible to ring round and see if any vets will give you a discount? I know I'm very lucky but ours were about £70 for 13 vacs i think.
Or do you have anything you could sell on ebay etc to raise a bit of cash or car boot?
Or would the vets maybe arrange for you to pay in installments?
Sorry I cant think of much else. Good luck x x

Do you have a PDSA near you? Maybe you could offer to volunteer a few hours in exchange for help with the injections? Some rescue centres might do the same?

Car boot sales, e-bay?

Do you drink, smoke, socialise much? Could you cut down or give up for a while?

If worse comes to worse could you take a part-time job for a few weeks knowing you are going to ditch it as soon as you have the money for the injections? Cash in hand would be perfect, otherwise a supermarket or other shop that you aren't interested in ever working for in the future? It would totally suck but would at least give you peace of mind - if not any sleep and r&r!

Good luck

Emma

ok here area few things you could do car boot sale..ebay ..freead sites to pay for the injections you could ask prospective owners to pay a deposit of say £10 for a bun and before it goes to new home use that money to pay for vaccs before it goes?

possibly see if a local pdsa or local rspca will do a discount at their vets? ring around to get the best prices... my local vets charge £22 for both myxi and vhd...so x11.. well i know its a lot but it is fairly cheap.. could ask if they would let you pay in installments such as do all 11 for myxi but pay for 5 now and 5 later....

a rescue may be the best option and im sur if you could give the rescue a substantial donation towards the vaccs they would try adn help or even if they took half off you it would cut costs.... alternativly do a bake cake sale?50p a cake or could try cutting down on luxiouries?

I dont smoke, drink or socialise. I can't work because i'm ill, but i have got some benefit at the moment. I'm more than happy to spend all my benefit getting there injections, but i dont know if i am going to have enough. My mum is phoning the vets tomorrow to ask prices for there injections.

The only thing i could sell on ebay or such a place is a dolls house, its worth at least £150. I'll see about putting it up for sale.

Our nearest rspca is chobham, still pretty far.. i dont know if they would help out. After all the injections i have to find the money for 10 neuterings  Hopefully i can find a home for a bunny or two to cut down on the costs

get you mum or someone to phone your nearesr rspca vets or pdsa vets and enquire, as you should be entitled to reduced vets fees with the benfits you are on at the moment  not sure how much they will be though

Could you maybe ask for money for Christmas so you could pay for their injections that way? Then maybe you could ask for the money early (I did this last year and my parents were great about it)?

That way you could cover it that way.

I too am ill so appreciate that can be hard to work, but is there anything that you can do inspite of your illness? If there is, could you find a job specifically for that? I personally can't do that in my case, so I appreciate if its not possible for you too, but equally, for some people it is, so just thought I would put that out there :)

If you've got 11 bunnies you can buy the VHD in bulk. It comes in viles with multidose that work out cheaper.

Lillian, it's well worth asking the RSPCA as they often issue vouchers to whichever vet you want to use rather than having to take them in to their vet. Especially if you are on state benefits or even working and get housing/council tax benefit. They won't pay the full amount usually, but will give a good chunk towards neutering - not sure about vaccinating, but you won't get if you don't ask. They have pretty strict rehoming policies, so may even help you with rehoming a couple of you want to.
