Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Milky urine??

Arkaidy

Young Bun
I have an unaltered male rabbit, sometimes when he pees it is milky white or milky yellow, and other times it is clear urine. Is this normal??

milky yellow (or orangish yellow) is perfectly normal

clear is okay if it is not all the time

I don't know about milky white. I have never seen that color before

Oh yes, I forgot to mention sometimes his blankets are stained orange, which worried me too. Glad to know it is normal!

The white may be something to do with calcium, I have a bunny who is calcium intolerant. Charlie needs to avoid foods high in calcium and oxalates else he gets sludge in his bladder so early/minor symptoms are white wee, for Charlie this then moves onto his wee being thick like toothpaste, and then onto bladder stones. Bunnies have this intolerance at all difference levels, so it might just be that the days you are seeing white wee you've fed your bun something higher in calcium - it might be nothing to worry about but is worth understanding and keeping an eye on things.

So, foods high in calcium and oxalates are dark greens like spring greens and cabbage, brocolli and carrots (v high in oxalates). If you search on here for calcium and/or oxalates you should find some more info, or PM me if you think I can help.
