  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

prolapsed rectum urgent !!!! HELP....

bunnyrun

I had to rush a bunny intoday as an emergency who appears to have a prolapsed rectum, the vet managed to put it back, but now its out again. ive mananged to push it back in, but what are the chances of her recovering for this, has anyone else had this with their bunnies and if so what happened, milly has been through so much i dont want to lose her now:cry::cry:

i would phone the emergency vet for advice, it sounds like quite a serious thing and if the bun needs to go to the toilet it would be very sore, i would think. hope she is ok.

We had this happen to our beautiful Rosebud:cry: But Rosebud hadn't been spayed and this was the problem:cry:

In the end we found a vet who would do an emergency spay and stitch the rectum properly - but we lost her three weeks later due to the cancer spreading:cry::cry:

Has bun been spayed? She really needs to get to the vet again - she must be in pain:cry:

Oh no Im so sorry  Sending vibes to this wonderful bun and hoping she can be operated on. xx

It may not be all bad. I have a mini poodle who has lived with this for years. His is permentantly a few centimetres out but is worse some times than others it seems to depend on how much he growls. They never wanted to go the sugery route as he seems fine with it the way it is. It may be your situation is different, but just wanted to say it's not always impossible to live with.
