Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Grumpy rabbit

Young Bun
My bunny muffin has always been a bit grumpy and thumps sometimes when you go near her cage.

She is 5 and half and just wondered if anyone can advise anything to help

Thanks Lucy

Has she been spayed? Is there a possibility she has ever been neglected or abused?

It might be behavioural as opposed to health, but it might be worth getting her fully checked over to just rule out a medical issue.

No she has not been spayed

I have had her since she was 8 weeks old along with her sister. When we got her from the breeder she said that Muffin was very nervous. We have her out everyday and she is alot better than she used to be, she is not aggressive but just grumpy!

Could very well be hormone related (or else she has just got into a habit of being grumpy).

Would you consider getting her spayed? It has a lot of physical positives too, besides any potential hormone grumpiness, it also protects against the hormonal cancers which are very common in rabbits.

yeah I had thought about it but with her being 5 and a half I didn't know how she would cope with surgery.

Im only worried as I had to have her sister put down a week ago as she had many health problems and im worried Muffin will suffer to.

Im probably just being silly

Was she bonded with her sister? Has her beahviour changed since her sister died?

Maybe you could take her to a rabbit savvy vet to discuss a spay, and then you can make an informed decision based on that consult.

It's completely natural to worry about one when you have already lost one. It just shows you love her, that's all. :) Which is obviously a good thing.

They did everything together and she has been a lot quieter since Maisy hasn't been here.

I think ill pop her to the vets just for a general check up and a chat!

Thanks for your help

Having her spayed might help but she could just be missing her sis. I'd look into getting her a mate too if I were you.
