more wild mousey pics

Luciuslop

Alpha Buck
Just a couple more pics of our little mousey. I think she might be a girly mouse, but not really sure. Decided to call her Kasey, which means ' brave ' .:love: Still no signs of fur growth, but she seems to be doing well and is weaning herself now. She is very lively and bright :D

I was just wondering .... when she gets a little older will I need to find her a mousey friend ? She is too tame to be released back into wild and most likely wouldn't survive anyway because of her fur problem.

awk look so cute and sweet. she might be fine on her one, i had two hamsters and they fought, so not sure if you could put her with another mouse.

if she is female then you could try putting her with one or two other females, i put my part wild females with a lab mouse and it was fine, but they were part house mouse, and I reckon you've got a wood mouse there. If she turns out to be a he, then he'd have to live on his own...:)

Awww what a cute little mousey. It does look like a woodmouse with the small body and big ears. I wonder what's causing the fur problem?

omg the poor little baby, Awww thank God Luciuslop you have got him/her, most people would of left it, hope the fur does grow back, & what a cutey :D i have 2 beautiful mice in my garden & at night they eat the birds food lol, i can get right up close to them now without them running away. Mice are soooo beautiful, your doind a great job there hun

I thought at first it could be a stress related issue as I don't know how long Kasey was out in road or in the grass verge that borders the road, but its been a week now and no sign of any fur regrowth. Elve suggested it might be Cushings disease. Don't think its mites/mange as her skin is in good condition. I thought about taking her to my vet, who is a small animal specialist, but with all due respect to him he is not the gentlest of people when it comes to handling small furries and I am worried that she could get very stressed by the experience. She doesn't mind me holding her, but she is a bit wary of my o/h. She does look rather runty to me, so maybe there is something genetic going on.

TBH I'm not really sure keeping her would be fair, I think you should seek advice from a wildlife rehabilitatior and see what they recommend. Shes from wild parents so although shes been reared with you she won't be like a domesticated mouse. Also, the 'fancy mouse' kept as pets could be a completely different species from her so she wouldn't benefit from having mouse friends. Also, if she has anything like tyzzers or anything she'll pass it onto the others. Sorry, but I do think you need to seek advice from someone who has experience and be prepared to let her go if needbe.:(

You are right with all that you say, but I don't know if releasing her would be the best thing either as she obviously has some kind of problem with the fur loss. I am trying to seek advice about her, but no-one seems to know very much about wild mice - not even a local wildlife centre I rang  They said they rarely get mice. My vet couldn't offer much advice either, apart from the feeding of her/him. I'm open to suggestions to anyone who knows about wild mice :D
