Rabbiting on

Warren Scout
I cant really believe this, one of my rabbits has had babies, just now within this last hour!

Why I cant really believe this is because I did not know untill a couple of days ago. She was not showing any signs and she is quite a fluffy rabbit, so she usually looks large.

What makes it worse is she is a baby of my male and female adults, I also have 2 others from her litter which are both males. So this means the babies have to be from the babies.

What makes this even more annoying is both of the male babies are getting neutered this Tuesday, my adult male was done 3 weeks ago.

And the girls were due to be getting spayed in October. Surely this cant happen now for the one with a litter?

Will the babies be ok with the fact they are inbred?

I dont know what Im going to do with these one's as there is no room at the Inn.

Oh Lord!!!!!!

Unfortunately there is no way to predict the impact on breeding siblings. You may be lucky and they are all perfectly healthy but they may have problems - no way to tell until they grow up.

Was she in with the males then? How long ago did you seperate them? If they were still in when she gave birth odds are she could be pregnant again.

You'll need to wait until after the litter have weaned and she's stopped producing milk so early November probably for spaying. At least if everyone else is done that prevents accidents.

With the new babies make sure the sexes are separated out by 10 weeks and get someone to double check for you.

In a previous post back in the middle of August you mention that
I have 5, 3 boys and 2 girls. As mine are mum, dad and babies, they are 5 months old, they all get along well.

But I dont know if this would be the case if they wernt related?

My bunns are getting neutered next month so we should have even more happiness

Looking at the previous post and the one I am quoting from if they are all allowed to socialise together it is likely that the mum is also pregant. Taking into consideration that Dad has now only be neutered 3 weeks he could also be the father of these babies.

If there are any congenital problems being interbred could result in any of these becoming a problem.

Please do ensure that ALL the males are removed from the females immediatly, if the boys are still with the female at the time she has given birth, she is also probably pregnant again :(

They had been separated from about 4 months old, and my male has always been on his own, because I did not want any more baby rabbits.

My adult male has never been out with the girls before his neuter, thats how I know they are not his.

I only let them out together before feeding them, the males would be in the garden and I would let the girls out for 5 mins while I was getting their food ready, no more than that. The adult male had not been in contact with any of the females before his op.

I know the adult female is not pregnant as I have checked her and she seems normal, no pregnant belly or anything.

At the moment the adults are in together, the boys are together and the female baby is on her own. She has been with her mum for about 2 months now thats why Im so shocked.

Also the adult male is still trying to mount, why is this?

Unfortunately males are fertile well before 4 months (16 weeks). Babies need separating by 10 weeks - 12 at the absolute latest.

Males are potential fertile for a couple of weeks after neutering too so if she was in with him post-op they could still be his.

Mating takes seconds so unneutered rabbits should never be let out together for any time at all.

It can take 6-8 weeks for the hormones to settle down after neutering and the drive to mate to stop. Mounting is normal if you keep mixing up rabbits though - its part of forming heirachies, you're lucky it hasnt turned into fighting.

Theadult male is still trying to mount, why is this?

The adult male will still have a high testosterone level for about 6 weeks sometimes for longer after he is neutered and will still have his urges

I note from your message that the adult male has not been out with the girls before his neuter, however it is important to remember that the fertility of male rabbits will not totally reduce to nil for quite a number of weeks post operative. At 1 - 2 weeks post male castrate your male could potentially still father a litter  A good vetinary surgery usually advises to keep newly neutered males apart from females for at least a 4 week period sometimes longer.

Unfortunately 4 - 5 month old males are highly fertile, very often at a younger age they will be and it would only take a second for a poor female to become impregnated.

Is there a rescue near you that would consider taking ALL your males? Your situation is getting pretty desparate unless you have unlimited space.

I once read that if you leave 2 buns together you can have 1000 rabbits within a year. Not that I'm trying to scare you or anything.

Digging up a weeks old thread to have a go at someone seems kinda pointless to me.

Well not really considering you think they would have learnt their lesson from the first time and kept all the males apart before and six weeks after the op!!

so everyones plan is to make her feel like rubbish
imagine if you were in her shoes how would you feel.
and sometimes things cant be helped like one of her males could of jumped over to get to the female.things easily happen

If you read her posts you will see that is not the case, she was given very good advice and totally ignored it and has apparently now had three 'accidental' litters and wants a rescue to take them and pay for them

the rescue thing is wrong but if they werent accidental why isnt she selling them.
kinda proves her point that they were accidental

People don't just have litters to make money, they often do it because baby buns are cute...or as I suspect in this case just because they didn't bother taking necessary precautions to keep the rabbits apart.

I don't think anybody's intention was to make the OP feel bad at the start, but people's patience got a bit worn when she displayed such a childish attitude in regards the advice she was given, then turned around and lectured everyone about treating her like a child (when she's 26 y'know ;) )

If you lose your patience with someone then simply stop posting in their threads. Taking a thread offtopic to have a go at someone just to let out your own frustrations is not only pointless it is rude and counter-productive.

There have been a lot of helpful posts, but there are always a few people who use threads like this as an excuse to jump on their soap-box and have a go at people. There is no advice offered in their posts, just pointless rude comments.

Then you obviously haven't read her posts, I suggest you do and see all the good advice she was given and then ignored and then ask yourself why our patience is running thin

I agree. One month ago I posted that these buns shouldn't be kept together. My post was ignored. One month later - 2 "accidental" litters. Sorry I'm not :shock::shock:

What's that saying - only a fool keeps doing the same thing over & over & expects different results?

I WILL get banned today:oops::lol::lol:
