  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

moulting and poos

Mia & Honey

Warren Scout
Hi, over the last couple of days ive noticed honey has been pooing very little, what he does do is little and seems to have what I presume to be fur in it. I was brushing him 2 times a day both times the brush is full of fur he is moulting so I have done it 3 times hoping it will minimise him ingesting it when he is washing. Do you think this is the cause and is there anything else I can do to get him pooing normally again or will brushing him lots work the problem out?
If its no better tomorrow I will have to take him to the vets and see if they can get him moving properly again.
Thanks

Try to get you rabbit to take in some more fluid to help things pass through. Try to put a dash of boiling in to make it luke warm, also offer it in a bowl as mine prefer it that way and tend to drink more.

When mine moult I brush them twice a day and give them a pineapple bromelain tablet (recommended by somone on here) from the health shop. You can give some fresh pineapple/fresh juice as the enzymes (bromelain) are rumoured to help breakdown hair I think.
