Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Keeping bunny clean

My rabbit has got wee on it's fur on its legs and I was wondering if there was a way I could clean it?
I use warm water and cotton wool but it doesn't remove it?

the best thing to do is take her to the vet so they can shave the affected fur. If you bath it, it will just rub it into the the fur/skin and won't really come out. If the urine soaked fur is against her skin, the skin will become sore and infected. My little bun had this when she was ill and unable to groom herself. I clippped her fur and then applied aloe vera gel to the skin, once this had dried, i put vaseline on so that the urine just runs off the vaseline rather than scalding the skin. If you don't have aloe vera, E45 would be fine. Don't use sudocrem as it contains antibacterials which kill the bacteria in the gut if your bunny licks the cream off the skin.

I'm sorry, it's only a little and not against the skin.. nothing too bad. She'll probably clean it herself I just wanted to know if you could get shampoo's and such.
I will look out for it getting worse though.
Thanks for the advice.
:)
