Delayed VHD reaction?/ not eating again

Hugo's There

Wise Old Thumper
I'm really concerned about Lottie. She isn't very interested in her food today and seems awfully cold.

Lottie has so many health problems that I am not sure which it could be. She has major dental issues but she had these checked on Thursday and they shouldn't be causing her a problem. I am thinking it may be related to her VHD jab which she also had on Thursday plus she had ivermectin spot on this week as well. Lottie was fine yesterday, so is it possible to have a delayed reaction?

I am also really disappointed as she has lost weight in the 2 weeks I have had her despite giving her 2 extra meals a day.:(

She is still pooing and moving around a bit, although I have given her a hot water bottle and she has choosen to sleep on it some of the time.

Poor Lottie

In my experience if side-effects from a VHD Vaccination are going to occur it happens within 24 hours. But it is possible for the reaction to take longer I guess :?
After discussion with my Vet I no longer vaccinate my 'health compromised' Buns against VHD as the Vaccine is quite an onslaught to an immune system already compromised by chronic disease.

Has she had an anti-inflammatory ?

Hope she starts eating soon :?

Thanks , I did question whether she was well enough, but Jen seemed happy to do it and yes I would have expected her to have reacted sooner :?

She has had metacam and syringe feed and I can give her fluids if necessary. I don't want to do that unless I really have to as she has really strange skin and it took 3 needles to get the vhd injection in

I don't want to take her to the emergency vet as it is such a long drive and they didn't travel well to us, plus if we don't get a real rabbit savvy vet, I know what their solution will be :(

Thankfully Lottie is eating some dried food on her own now :)

I still need to work on her weight though. That is going to be difficult as she wont eat anything except dried food and she is already having some 3 times a day. I am thinking she will have to be syringe fed critical care each day, but being blind and deaf I don't think she is going to take kindly to it :?

I'd just give her ad lib pellets if thats all she'll eat. As long as her guts are OK on that it'll be less stressful than syringe feeds which I only like to use as a last resort.

Glad she is eating a bit now :)

I would love to give her ad lib pellets but unfortunately she lives with her sister Lola who is extremely over weight and has a painful spine and weak back legs. Obviously Lola has been taking more than her fair share of food at mealtimes in the past. I do seperate for feeding as much as possible and Lola has lost 500g already. But with Lottie being blind and deaf she relies on her sister so much I couldn't seperate them permanently.
This is going to be a difficult one :?

Oh dear poor Lottie  I cant think of owt to help cos you know far more than i do! So just sending those get well vibes I'm afraid. Poor little Lottie x x

Has she stopped pooing too ?

No she's still pooing although they are obviously very small, but she hasn't done full sized poos since I've had her. She has eaten a very small amount of dry food but it isn't enough to keep her going. I can't really tempt her with anything nice as she just wont touch anything other than dry food. I did offer her a choice of 4 different dry foods this morning, she also wont eat porridge.

I think I will have to resort to syringe feeding.

I don't know whether to take her to the vets tomorrow or just keep trying myself. She had a full health check on Thursday, she has so many problems none of which are really treatable except for her teeth and they are ok at present. I think I will ring and see if I can have a chat to Jen.

I was advised not to give her porridge to put weight on her by the rabbit specialist. She was woried that the high amounts of protein would have adverse affects on her kidneys.

Thinking of you Liz ad Lottie of course.

Thats ok as she doesn't like it. At this stage though I would be happy for her to eat anything with some enjoyment
