  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

What does this mean?

If a bunny is laying down, then getting up and repositioning, and rolling on their back, does it mean they could be in pain? Thanks.

I'd do a close fur inspection for things like mites or an inflamed skin/rash. It could just be playing though :)

Laying down and rolling on it's back mean a bun is really happy & comfortable

Maybe it's lying odd, or something keeps startling it?

Standing up and laying down in an agitated manner sometimes means gas...although they wouldn't usually roll on their backs with gas, they'd press their tummy against the floor.

Probably what foxyfaerie says, just a happy bunny :D

 is it a big bun? i ask this because both our big buns do this..
in the summer to cool down (we have a laminate floor so they move to a cooler area!) and also just to play!!
our little buns dont do it very often..
rolling around on their backs is just having fun!!
you might even be lucky enough to hear a purr....

Sounds like a happy bunny trying to get comfortable to me  Beau rolls about on his back, then will fall asleep for a while like that, then suddenly get up and roll over again and go back to sleep :) x
