Jason Burgess-very rabbit savvy-vet -have used him for 15years at his own practice in Longlevens Gloucester and also sometimes at the Animal Hospital in Quedgeley Gloucester- I fully recommend.-Sue:wave:

Ivan Crotaz at Kynoch Vets in Harmans Water (Bracknell/Berks) is what I call a bit of a specialist in the rabbit world. He comes highly recommended.

It may be worth getting a sticky made listing good vets in different areas for people:D

 i go to The Animal Hospital in Quedgeley Glos too see Jason, he is brill, did my Shaunys neuter (with no problems) and saved his life, handled the whole insurance claim (apart from excess) which came to £460.

I think he is such a lovley man, and very rabbit savvy:D

Our vets aren't really rabbit specialists, but they are very good with all types of animals. If they don't know they will ask around and will also listen to your own suggestions. They are more and more becoming experienced with rabbit and guinea pig problems- they are Donview vets in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire.

I've never used Frances Harcourt-Brown but have heard she's very rabbit-savvy. I think she's in Yorkshire?-Sue:wave:

She's at Crab Lane, Harrogate. She has been highly recommended to me but a little too far for the routine stuff. I've read/heard various places that she is one of the top rabbit specialist in UK.

spoke to tamsin a few weeks back about this i believe its in the pipeline already to have a directory now that you type in your location and vet pops up with various reccommendations from ru members of course this list would only be reccomendations but she is certaintly trying to organise this xx

What makes a good rabbit vet? This is a difficult one to answer. I used to think my former vet was great because she handled my bunnies with affection, gave the vaccines fine, and they survived their spaying. Looking back, that makes an "okay" vet.

Your experience of a good vet, with only be based on what your vet actually did for your rabbit and how their rabbit experience was shown to you. Frances Harcourt Brown would be the template for me to highly recommend a vet.

Ivan Crotaz, the former Greenfields Rescue vet and recommended by Duchess, I have experience of. I took Maisie from Oxford to Bracknell when I was frustrated with her care. He was very good and rabbit savvy. I am using my Oxford practice again and I am building up a rapport with a part time vet there, but I do feel dread when she is off and I need a vet. Christobel, Arcs vet, sounds excellent too.

If we recommend a vet, we need to say why we are recommending that vet.

I think my vet is brilliant because the first time i went there and since they always ask questions about how you care for your bun and makesure you are a knowledgable owner. They handle them well and send me letters to makesure i know their vaccines are due!

I also like he fact they routinely keep bunnies over night post neutering, makesure they are eating and drinking and if they need to keep them another night they dont charge, they only let them go when they are happy the bun has recovered. Plus they stock superexcel and fresh veg for the buns (the nurses went out and picked dandelions for my buns :D )

Oh they are unicorn vets in southampton by the way, highly recommend them.

Simon (and his wife - can't remember her name) at the Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic in Duston, Northants. They only treat cats and rabbits (plus the odd piggy) and he's got my buns through some bad times with his vast rabbity knowledge - including hind limb amputations, GA's involving snuffly buns and GI stasis. I have every faith in him. There are only the two vets at this clinic and they both specialise in buns.

Hi

Something I feel is important when looking for a vet is whether there is anyone on site over night and if they offer a 24 hour emergency service on their premises.
If not they will probably offer it at another vets premises but you need to know how far away this is and if it's viable with a sick bunny.
I do know a few very good rabbit savvy vets who have nobody on site overnight. :(

I like to have a good local vet offering 24 on site care and be aware of more specialist vets should I need them, not to mention which vets are open on Sundays or Bank holidays etc.. :)

From experience I've found it helps to have every scenerio covered :)

I completely agree, there's nothing worse than having a fantastic vet that you have complete faith in, but if something happens outside 9-5 then you are directed somewhere else or to a vet within the same practice who has no experience of rabbits.

I go to Acorn Vetinary Centre in Studley, nr Redditch and I see a brilliant young vet called Stephanie... im not sure but I think she trained with Jason and has a particular interest in rabbits which is great!

The owners also both specialise in dentistry which is brilliant if you have a dental bun. I think one of the owners is the president of the British Dental Association and i know that he gets nationwide referrals. They also specialise in alternative treatment such as acupuncture :D

I highly recommend them, I moved to them when my vets had pretty much given up on molly...... Stephanie performed a relatively new surgery on his ear and 6 months later hes like a brand new hoppy bunny! :)
