The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Excessive drinking

Hello all

Donald is 9 next month and seems to be drinking an awful lot, he is also constantly molting. do you think there is something to worry about or is it just normal for an older rabbit to drink as much??

Thanks
Pamela

My bunny (who is only 2) recently started drinking much more than normal. How much is your bun drinking? Apparently they should drink about 50mls per kg of weight in 24 hrs.

took him to the vet to be on the safe side and she said most likely cause was the EC parasite. I am now waiting for teh results of some tests - he had xray plus blood and urine tests, - xrays clear now waiting for the others. In case it is EC I have started treating him with panacur.

I would say go to the vet, just to be on the safe side- if left it could become something serious. (not wanting to worry you)

His water bottle holds about 600ml and that was mostly gone in about 24hours

I am a little worried about him becuase of his age I am also about to go on my honeymoon and would hate anything to happen whilst I am away

he is indoors and has been all his life I wouldnt say the flat is warm as heating is on and I let it be well ventalated

he seems very lively still might phone vet tomorrow for some advice

Yes I think that's a good idea - you'll feel better for checking it out anyway! Do hope he is ok, fingers crossed for you, I know how worrying it is! Enjoy your honeymoon! Is it somewhere nice? x

Hi my bunny Dorian is 6months and he is drinking about 500mls a day sometimes, but this is since I have changed his food to a higher fibre percentage food. Could this be the case? I made sure I gradually weaned him off the first type of food to the next.

Thanks

Donald is on supaexcel and has been for years (had him since he was 10 months old, longer than the fiance!!!!!)

Going to America for honeymoon

I am not ure about the change of diet, although I know that change of diet can affect a bunny. There was no obvious trigger in Gregory, but teh vet did asked if I had recently changed his diet.

Hopefully someone will be on later to answer your question.

It could be the hot summer, or it could be his kidney. Check his urine color? Is it the dark yellow-orange color? Or is it a very light, quite clear light color?

My bun was drinking a lot for a short while, turns out it's just the fact that he is in a small room w/ a 500W light, so it's a bit hot for him.

I would get him checked out to be sure....but the weather has been a bit more 'close' & humid here lately (i see your in glasgow - im in hamilton :)), so it might just be that.....even though we dont feel a great change in weather, the wee bun might, and just might need some extra drink.....

I have booked Donald into vets on Thursday just to make sure

It could just be the humid weather but I want to make sure especially since I am going away
