  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Kitt has mites =[

Just got back from the vets and Kitt has mites - however there's only one patch on him that is affected... I'm guessing this is because I've taken him to be treated early on?

How can rabbits get mites? He is the house rabbit and the outdoor ones are all fine and mite free. Am I not cleaning him enough? Also, can they pass from one to another? Only I use the same carrier for them all as someone borrowed my carrier and haven't returned it yet =[

oh i dont know, my mum asked this the other day, because of Jane being here (part of a bunny run) and she askedme how they get them if there single bunnies n i said id ont know!

hope kitt gets better soon!

There is one mite called Cheyletiella or more commonly 'walking dandruff' this mites can live on dog cats and rabbits. Yes they can be tramsitted from one bun to another they are not host specific. It is quite common in rabbits so don't feel bad about it. a few doses of ivomectin will sort them out, but I would recommend getting any other rabbits/pets treated also.
