  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Myxi

Hello rabbits united forum users

I work for BBC Look North in Hull, East Yorkshire & Lincolnshire and we are filming with a vet tomorrow to highlight the growing numbers of myxi cases in our area.
I'm looking for someone who's rabbit has sadly contracted myxi who would be happy to be interviewed on camera about that experience. They would need to live in our patch and be available during the day tomorrow.

We are already interviewing Chris Dodd who set up a website after losing his pet rabbit and not being able to find out anything about the disease.

Hope you can help. Jane

I think you will find that myxi is pretty widespread across the country.

Do look on this site for more info and tell people there is info on myxi available on here.

When my bun got myxi it was in the form of nodular myxi as she had been vaccinated, and after a lengthy illness she did survive.(Unvaccinated buns don't usually survive myxomatosis).

Well done for highlighting the problem. Do please come back on here for more info if you need it and sincere sympathies to Chris Dodd on the loss of his rabbit. -Sue

I can't help I'm afraid but I think it's great that you're highlighting the problem as theres not enough awareness of it.

Is the vet not able to put you in touch with anyone suitable? My own vets mentioned that they had to put several rabbit to sleep last year because of myxi.

Best of luck finding someone
