Hi Everyone

See thread below:

I can't believe it but just today my buns have been struck by this again! I'm not sure whether to take them to the vets again and ask for another shot of ivomectin or whether to treat with vaseline as suggested and let it run it's course!

Does anyone have any thoughts and has anyone elses buns had this so far this year? I feel like I have eternal bad luck with my buns as Benjamin has only been out of bunny hospital a week!

Benjamin also has a case of fur/ skin mite - I can't remember the name of it but it gives him a 'dandruff' like appearance in a patch on his skin. The vet has said it's fairly common and nothing to worry about and we should wash him periodically with a dandruff shampoo.

My poor babies!!!!

Honestly, you would be best to just use the vaseline or the baby oil - taking them to the vets for Ivormectin would only stress them and there is no proof that the Ivormectin actually kills them. Lots of buns get them and they do die with the vaseline - and they are usually killed off by next month.

Hope they do alright and that they don't irritate Benjamin too much:D

Thanks Jaypot. I have been and bought some vaseline and applied it very sparingly - hopefully that is enough. Do I need to reapply daily?

I appreciate the help both last year and this year as this seems to be something my bunnies are destined to be blighted with every year due to where we live.

Thanks

That's alright :D We used to get it all the time when we lived in Wales no matter what we did - it's one of those things

I used to wipe the eye and nostrils each day with soft kitchen roll and then re-apply the vaseline - each time they dry out they can get more of the ******* and they love going for the eyes or nose - sometimes the sides of their mouths as well:shock: They are harmless but can get irritating as we wouldn't like something tiny itching us:lol::lol:

Thanks for the help. I will keep applying the vaseline. I haven't noticed any on the nose so hopefully they won't go on there but last time the vet said there were some deep in the ears and on their bums! I haven't spotted any myself yet - just on the eyes so far!

Thanks

Noticed a few on Captain Carrot a few days ago and thought it was pollen, just read the posts on it, went out to vaseline him and they'd all gone!

Well I'm so glad to report that the vaseline seems to be working extremely well. Thanks Jaypot!!

Benjamin now has none left on his eyes but I have noticed a few deep in his ears which I don't think I can put vaseline on so he's having to cope with those as best he can.

Roxy still has a few on one of her eyes and a little bald spot around them - presumably where she has been scratching but I can't see any in her nose and thankfully both bums and noses are clear!
