  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Got to get a wee sample! Any ideas/tips?! UD - We have wee!

Got to get a wee sample from Gregory - despite being taken to the vets for excessive wee problem, he wouldn't do one there! Although did do it in the carrier both on the way there and the way home!

So......I now have a little syringe and a pot and have to try and get a sample!
How??????

The easiest way is probably to sterilize a litter tray and try to get the bun to wee in there without any litter in it.

BTW what is the sample for? If the vet is going to do a C&S for a UTI then I personally wouldn't bother because the bacteria will die as soon as they come in contact with air.

I'm not sure what it's for to be honest - I was a little overwhelmed and emotional at the vets! I'll do it though, may as well. I've emptied his litter tray in the hope this will work!

If they're going to test for bacteria, you'll need to sterilize it as well as just emptying it. Something like Milton or denture tablets would work.

My clever boy has produced a nice big sample! Woohoo! Waited til I wasn't looking, the sneak, then went for it in his empty litter tray! Thanks for your advice!
