parsnipbun
Wise Old Thumper
Parsley made it through his 3 hour operation of his broken leg. Its seems a miracle given his irregular heart, and also the bad state of the fracture. I was allowed to see him at 4pm and he was already eating although the op only finished at 1pm (thats my Parsley!!!!).
He was still a bit cold round the ears so the nurse took him back to the (warm) wards and we will see him again tomorrow.
Of course silly me I am still worried - as now I worry that he will stop eating or get cold overnight!!! and I wish I had asked if they have given him a heat pad. They have 24 hour nursing and vets though so he should get looked after and I have taken lots and lots of food from the allotment in for him (all his favourite weeds and freshly dug carrots). It was a 1.5 hour drive each way - but worth it just to see him nibble a pear slice.
I can hardly believe how much has happened in the last 48 hours - from finding him with the twisted leg all horrid and upside down and sticking out backwards, then the drive to the emergency vet, then our vet and the awful x-rays, then the specialist referral, then the op and the drive there, and now being able to visit him.
It is a miracle and I feel so privileged (wrong word but I am still all odd and shaken up).
Now all we have to do is try and find a way to pay the bill. We are not insured as we decided it cost so much every month to insure all 12 buns - but his bill will apparently be about £4,000 - £5,000 (and no I have not accidentally added extra noughts!!). 3 hours of intensive aneasthesia team and specialist small animal fracture surgeon and all the preparation and intensive care before and after - and of course the specialist metal pins and plates etc etc..
But all that matters is he is over the worst . . . though those cold ears do worry me!! . . goes away and worries to self and wonders about ringing ward nurse for fourth time this afternoon and asking about heat pad . . . .
