Sick with worry - anyone else had a LONG operation??

parsnipbun

Wise Old Thumper
Many thanks for the vibes for Parsley's broken leg - he has just gone into surgery to be pinned and plated.
I am sick (literally) with worry. Has ANYONE else had a rabbit undergo really LONG operation?? They are estimating 2-3 hours!!!!!

I do not know how long Willow's GI op took, but I am sure it was not THAT long. I just cannot get my head round him being under that long. PLEASE someone convince me that LONG ops can be done!!!

Please try not to worry, long ops can be done and your vet wouldn;t attempt it if they thought it was a no hoper, I am sure her will be fine and yes long ops do happens, I've had a couple of long ops, not that long, but long enough and the bunnies were fine afterwards

Sedning loads of vibes and hugs, keep us posted

I have had a bun under a 2 hour op to have her femure pinned and she was just 14 weeks old! She was absolutely fine afterwards so please don't worry yourself sick over the op time.

You have no idea how much these replies mean to me - I burst into tears with thankfulness that someone else had had long ops. and survived.

I don't have any experience of long ops, but just wanted to say I hope all goes well. Keep us updated. Thinking of you.

Lots of bunnies go through long ops and come out the other end OK, sometimes they recover better than if they've had a short op:roll::roll:, honestly your vet would not have done the operation if the risk and the chances of him surviving were nil, so think positive, stay positive and you will have positive results, trust me!!, I am sure he has every chance of a good recovery, I'm sending you big hugs and calming vibes as well.

Please keep us posted and I am saying extra special prayers for this bunny, he is a very special little man xx

Elwood was under for 2 hours when he had his incisors removed and was castrated. He was up and about in no time and was home 3 hours after the op finished :D

if your baby has gone to a specialist (i think you said he was) then they would do them ops daily, if it was a low success rate they wouldnt bother..

sending calming vibes to you xxxxx

I hope all goes well with the operation.

I haven't experience of a long operation but I know that a few of Carolines sponsor rabbits have had and they have been fine. One bunny also had a heart problem which added to the nerves but he pulled through a 2.5 hour operation.

I am crossing my fingers and toes for you, and will be thinking about you and bunny and waiting for more news.

Hi everyone - see update in other threads. The op went well and he is coming home. He will be sent out on a paper round soon to help pay the bill!!
