Lionhead Rabbits Breeders

Hi i was wondering if anyone knows any Lionhead breeders in Kent. I have been looking on the internet and cannot find any websites of any in kent. I just wanted to know my nearest breeder for when i get more rabbits in future as i've only ever got rabbits from a shop and after a few problems with some of ours i don't think i trust them much now.

Thanks

I'd definitely suggest a rescue bun too - I have the cutest little lionhead that came from a rescue and he is the picture of health

:D We took in a rescue lionhead and she is just the most gorgeous gal you ever saw and such a sweet nature. The rescue centre we got both our buns from was very accurate about each bunny. Both have been very healthy and the time they have spent with us has only served to enrich their personnalities.
No regrets at all.:D:D:D:D

I have thought about rescue centres but i'm unsure how to put into words what i mean. I thought if i could find a lionhead breeder then they'd be experienced in just lionheads and have accurate information about them. I'm not sure i'm explaining myself very well in what i mean. I know that i'd rather not go to a shop anymore when getting a rabbit thats definite.

To be honest, I think you'd generally get better advice from a rescue centre - they exist purely to make sure that rabbits have a better life. Like all these things - there are good and bad in every type, there are breeders with good advice but I have also known some seriously duff advice given out by breeders!

Lionheads are no different from any other rabbits apart from the fact that they have a bit of extra fur which will need grooming, so I don't really see there's any particular benefit in going to a breeder from that point of view :?

Totally agree with you on the pet shop thing though - if not simply for the advice, then because it stresses bunnies out being moved from breeder to shop to new home all in such a short space of time!

When you put it like that i see what you mean. I guess with a breeder there's more chance of being closer to home and as i don't drive easier to get to. Rescue centres are a bit out there. However thanks for the advice. We are in no hurry to get any more rabbits just yet. I just wanted to look at other options than pets at home and other shops. Only one of my lionheads has been ok from one pet shop we went to. My brothers and sisters rabbits have had all sorts of problems. My brothers one was even pregnant by people who had taken her from pets at home and then took her back. It made me give up after that on pet shops being any good at selling pets. Pets at home is fine for other things but not actual living pets.

Here's a list of Rabbit Rescues in Kent

http://www.rabbitrehome.org.uk/centres.asp#Kent

One of them is bound to have lionheads in.

There may be a lot of local breeders, but if you do go to a breeder you need to make sure it's a reputable one - & BRC registered (although that doesn't guarantee a good breeder).

I have 6 lionheads (I keep counting them up & increasing that number:lol:)- my first is from a pet shop but the rest are Rescues, & I have had a lot of back up, help & info given from the Rescues involved:D

If you want to speak to lionhead Specialists give Yvonne Goldsworthy a call - shes Secretary of the National Lionhead Rabbit Club and should be able to give you breed specific advice and details of breeders if you want.
