Jess will not eat them and he's done loads of them today. He is on a diet of pellets, and small amount of dried herbs and fruit, morning and last thing at nigh, with a portion of veg bout 4/5 o clock. He definitely isnt overfed so any ideas why he wont eat them??

Hello,
I normally find that excess caecotrophs from my buns are down to their diet. It can be a sign of teeth troubles too though. I normally cut down on the pellets a bit and see if that helps. You said you feed him fruit too - maybe cut that back a bit too as it might be too sugary. Give it a week or so and see if theres any improvement.

How many pellets are you feeding? I have been advised to give an egg cup full in the morning and then a portion of veg in the evening and then hay for the rest of the time. My two feecycle bunnies arrived with excessive caecotrophs but after a few days on the above I have barely seen one since :)

My 2 bunnys were having excess cecotropes 2weeks ago an a lady on here asked me which pellets i was feeding them, i was giving then oxbows 15/23 alfalfa based 1s i have nearly completed changin them over to A/P feeder/grower pellets an i hardly see any now, so it must a been the pellets upsetting their tums. :)

My get the same. They are in bonded pairs so they get an egg cup in the morning between 2 of them and an egg cup in the evening. They have always had the herbs and fruit though too so dont know whats changed. the only thing i can think of is that in the last couple of days ive given him a bromilain tablet cos he's moulting really bad.
Could that be the problem?

Bunnies not eating cecals can be for quite a number of reasons.
The first one to consider is what they are eating. If a bunny doesn't feel hungry enough, they won't bother to eat their cecals and this then becomes problematic as they don't get the protein from the recycled food.
How many pellets are you feeding and what type?
All of my bunnies get a mixture of meadow, timothy and rye hay daily (as much as they can eat) with a small amount of veg and an egg cup full of pellet per day.
Some bunnies are also prone to uneaten cecals if the food they are eating is too rich. Particular types of veg brings the problem out too - too much cabbage, broccoli, or similar and too much fruit (to be given as a treat normally).

Alfalfa hay is the only one that I would limit as it's very 'rich'. I don't see why you couldn't feed unlimited of any other type of hay provided the bunny is used to it. If it's new to them, as with everything else, I would add it to their diet gradually and in small amounts at first.

Yeah unlimited meadow and timothy. Like i said, its from jess who very rarely doesnt eat them. Just wondering if the bromelain tablet may have had soething to do with it. Ill cut his and Twinkle's pellets down to see if that helps
