Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Ears lopping? - update been to vets, all ok?

Hi,

Tom is 3 years old and has always had one ear up and one ear down. A couple of days ago I noticed he had both down but a bit later one was up as usual. Today they have both been lopped all day. He seems fine. Anybody got any ideas why?

He looks so strange, I am so used to him with one up and one down! I hope it goes back up, I don't think it suits him!

Thanks,

Tina

The ears can flop if it's particularly warm. Because they cool down by pumping more blood into the ear the extra weight can make the ears temporarily lop. :)

Zakura's ears dropped sometime in this summer too.
She's normally got both ears up, but one may drop down occasionally when its hot.

I would get the vet to check his ears. It might just be a heat/muscle thing but sudden change in ear position can also happen with an ear infection and they are easiest to treat the quicker they are caught. You wouldn't necessarily see anything just looking down his ear without a scope.

Well, been to the vets! Ears fine, everything else fine so who knows? Maybe it's a bad ear day...............

Mind you he is really mad with me, thumped and shook the vets table and is now hiding behind the sofa! I'll get him a blackberry, that should help!

Glad he's okay :D It's very odd to suddenly lop at that age though so no other ideas what it could be... I guess he just fancied a change!
