Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Molly - possible snuffle bunny? please help

Lread

Young Bun
My Molly is 3 years old and had snuffles when she was about 3 - 4 months old and it was really difficult to shift. She has had mild episodes since.

She also has to have her teeth filed once every 3 months the back ones.

I'm a little concerned now as I have had her in doors, she eats her hay like normal and then lies out and appears to be breathing heavily and she has a wet nose.

She is active, loves her food and drinks / poo’s like normal.

I know when they have had snuffles they will carry it for the rest of her life.

Is she a so called snuffle bunny, should she be treated by a vet, is there anything I should be doing different to look after her.

Do you think I should get this checked out by a vet?

Advice please, Louise

I would take her to your vet or at least telephone them and ask to speak to someone for advice.

yeah I would go to the vets - our friends rabbit (whos also a bit of a snuffle/sneezing bun since they got him )has just gone like this and they were told by the vets that its due to the rapid weather changes that many rabbits are having snuffles/wheezy chest as they alter their respiratory system to the climate and the hot to wet weather is causing havoc and knocking them out of sync - he went in for a castration but they wouldnt do the op due to the wheeze on his chest so he has a 5 day course of antibiotics and is booked in again in a fortnights time

Well I've just taken my bun to the vets with the same thing, and been given the same advice. The vet said his chest was clear, he's healthy and eating ok, so it's probably the weather which has made snuffles worse but she said she wouldn't treat with antibiotics as there's no sign of infection and his poo has been a bit messy and they would make it worse at just the wrong time of year for messy bums and flies. So I'd like to know opinions on treatment of snuffles too if anyone has any?? Thanks :)

i think Foxglove has a bit of snuffles. she sounded a bit snuffly yesterday but when i just picked her up it is the same and she had a little bit of snot which has gone now and no more is coming out but she still sounds a bit snuffly just from her nose - everything else is normal. So I'd like to know treatment too please.
